At Mossburn our animals are every bit as important as our clients. And our clients are as important as our animals. We invest huge amounts of time and energy into the well being of both – and that of itself reaps huge rewards.
A happy animal will give so much more to the programme, and the client can then get so much more out.
This fact has now finally been acknowledged by the profession.
Children and young people aged 10 to 25 years can access Equine and Animal Assisted Therapy and Equine and Animal Assisted Learning at the centre. We offer individual and group sessions (maximum number of 6 in the group).
The number of sessions can range from short term work (6 sessions) to longer term depending on the needs of the group or individual.
At a time when the medical profession was doling out Ritalin to so-called "disturbed" youngsters and paracetamol to stressed out parents we, and others like us, were seeing the truly spectacular results that can be gained from bringing together properly vetted animals, and people with a range of social and mental health issues. We were introducing socially disturbed young people in a carefully controlled environment to a horse. And standing back. And waiting for the smile.
